Hire

"We would definitely recommend anyone to book a consultation or attend a library session as carrying our baby has been so helpful for parenting our little girl and practical for us. It really makes a difference to have [this] knowledge behind us."

Why Hire?

Borrowing a sling or nappy kit from a library is a great way to try a product out and make sure that you and baby (and anyone else who will be using them!) are happy and comfortable before spending money on expensive items.

We offer consultations as part of our service to ensure that you will be getting the best out of the item you want to hire. We also provide tailored support throughout the hire period as well, so you can be sure that there will always be someone on hand to help if you run into issues!

Hire FAQs

Can I extend my hire?

Slings

Most sling hires can be extended. Instructions will be in your return reminder e-mail. We generally cap extensions at 4 weeks total hire so it is available for others to try.

Nappies

Birth to potty (BTP) nappy hire can usually be extended depending on demand.

Newborn kit hire unfortunately can rarely be extended as they are very popular and we often have the next person lined up to hire your kit - baby will usually be growing out of newborn sizes by the end of the 8 weeks anyway! However, you are welcome to swap your newborn kit over for a BTP kit. If you would prefer to purchase some, then we also offer a 10% discount on full-price items for those who have hired kits.

Please see T&C for maximum hire periods for slings and nappies

How do I pay?

All payments are taken by card. If you have arranged to collect out of hours, you will be sent an invoice. If in person or at an event, we can collect payment at the time. Your card details will be saved by our secure payment provider; this acts as your deposit and makes it easier to extend hire if needed.

Payment on extension of hire

If you extend your hire, payment will continue to be taken from the original card as laid out in your hire agreement up to a maximum term.

Please see T&C for full details

How do I collect my hire?

Most collections and returns will be from our drop-in group at Mocha Turtle Coffee Bar (BH6). You can also do an out of hours collection or return from/to Caroline’s house (BH6) or Katy’s house (BH10). This needs to be pre arranged to allow time for us to take the items home. This is done via a lock box outside the houses. You will be given the code when arranging hire and can then collect or return at any time on the day you have chosen.

If you are unable to access any of these options, please contact us to discuss.

Can I reserve a specific sling?

Sure you can, subject to availability! Please come to the drop-in session or get in touch to discuss options and we can get it reserved for you. Generally we will want to see you for a consultation first but if you are a previous hirer and want to reserve a sling for a holiday for example we can certainly do this for you!

Do I need to wash the sling at the end of my hire?

Please only wash before returning if the sling needs it e.g if there has been any kind of bodily fluids accident! A link to instructions are on each item on Lend Engine. Please make sure all buckles are done up before putting a sling in the washing machine. You can spot clean any marks with a wet cloth.

Do you wash the slings between hires?

We try not to wash slings more than necessary as too much washing can shorten their lifespan.

Can I use the council voucher to hire a nappy kit?

Yes. We are happy to accept both BCP and Dorset council nappy vouchers towards hire of a newborn nappy kit or towards purchase of nappies from our retail store. Please note that a minimum spend of £45 applies to recoup the voucher from either supplier. Please see our Council nappy kit information page if you would like to know more.

How do I reserve a nappy kit?

All nappy kits can be reserved subject to availability. Newborn nappy kits are especially popular and may need to be reserved well in advance of your due date. To find out more and hire nappies, please click here

Do you do nappy postal hires?

Yes we do! All nappy kits are available as a postal hire, but please bear in mind there is an extra cost for this service. Items will be delivered by tracked mail, please return them in the same manner. See T&C for full details.

How do I wash my hired nappies?

See our quick washing guide here. All nappies hired from us should be washed in accordance with our terms and conditions of hire following guidelines from the UK Nappy Network of which we are members. If you are having issues or want to ask a specific question regarding washing procedures or techniques, please contact Katy who will be happy to assist you or provide information.

Do you sanitise your nappies between hires?

We wash all our nappy kits between hires in accordance with guidelines from the UK nappy network of which we are members. Peer reviewed evidence for sufficiency of this method for domestic hires can be found here. Please contact Katy if you have any further questions regarding this
